When you take a good look at several actors headshots shots you’ll notice they all have something in common, without realising it you’ll be drawn towards the eyes.
It’s always the eyes.
Simply because they are the focal point of the whole shot, it is not your nose or your lips or the kind of jewellery you are wearing nor is it the background.
So how do we make sure they are absolutely perfect? As an actors headshot photographer in London it’s my experience that the eyes must always look directly into the lens, it’s important the eyes are looking in the correct direction.

actors headshot
As an actors headshot photographer in London it’s my opinion that they should always look straight into the camera.
Try to make a connection with the person that is looking at your headshot.
This may seem obvious but there are many instances of actors looking off camera.
Without getting the basics right you’ll always be struggling to make that great first impression.
In some actor’s headshots you’ll see the actor staring over the shoulder of the photographer?

So we don’t want your eyes to be blank and lifeless. As your key piece of visual marketing your actors headshot has to have an instant impact.
Your eyes need to be looking in the correct direction, focused in the right place, and much more importantly to have some sense of emotion in them.
This is the way to make sure that whoever is looking at your headshot can see that you have more depth to your personality as an actor.
Picking the right headshot photographer is very important – in fact it is absolutely crucial.
The same as a good director encourages and enthuses you, to give your absolute best performance.
Without these instructions and the confidence inspired by a good photographer some actors find it difficult to express the necessary emotions required.
I find this one simple technique the most important to a successful actors headshot.

actors headshot london
Fear and insecurity make many actors hesitant to have un updated headshot done on a regular basis preferring to hold onto a good shot that maybe years out of date (I’ll deal with this in a later article).
This alone makes many actors unwilling to have an updated headshot done on a regular basis preferring to hold onto a good shot that maybe years out of date (this is something I’ll cover in another article).
I understand the reasons for this and luckily I have my techniques for getting around this, as I’m sure many other photographers do too.

So there we are. In plain language we’ve recognised,
You may even actually enjoy it.
