Dance classes are not only popular with adults. You can enjoy dance classes from a very young age, and not only will dance aid children’s balance, it can also assist with co-ordination and listening skills which will help them interact with other children.

There is a wide selection of dance classes available including ballet, jazz, tap, disco/modern, street, salsa, rock n roll, ballroom and many more. Styles like jazz and tap are based on ballet, so a good understanding of ballet is important. The most popular styles of dance for young children are street and salsa dancing.

Different Styles Of Dance

Street dancing is where you learn dance routines that are familiar to hip hop and may have a little jazz or aerobics thrown in as well! Street dancing is popular once more thanks to the talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ with lot’s of boys and girls joining up for classes.

Another favourite is Ballet, especially with young children. Although a enjoyable and fun style of dance, dancers have to work hard at perfecting the art of ballet!

A good Dance School is important for whatever style of dance you choose. The average dance class should have between 15 and 20 students and this is especially important with younger children. Too bigger classes can make a child feel over whelmed and they will not get the attention they deserve. A child’s creativity can be overlooked if the teacher has too many to teach.
