If you’re an amateur photographer, you’ve probably browsed some of the stock photo sites online. Did you ever think of selling some of your photos through these websites? People make a significant income doing just that, particularly if you have an eye for what sells. Photographing children can be a lucrative niche in this market. There are plenty of photos of kids to browse in stock photo sites if you are looking for inspiration. You’ll notice that expressively cute, playful, whimsical and smiling photos are big sellers. Kids with kids as well as kids with pets can make great images too. The most successful images are those that evoke positive feelings. Browsing the stock photo sites in this manner can be quite helpful to your objective of turning your hobby into a small business.

 

Most parents shoot photos of their kids at every opportunity. Find the most appealing photos in your collection of children’s photos and try to determine what it is that appeals. You will find that it is the child’s expression that really grabs you in many instances or perhaps it is the occasion. Kids are usually more expressive as they are less self conscious than adults. Maybe that’s what makes photographing children so much fun. They don’t hide how they’re feeling right in the moment. Emotions like delight, surprise, pure joy are readily seen and captured on film, or whatever media you use.

Sometimes a salable photo can be made out of tantrum a frown or something that we might generally perceive as bad behaviour. Among your experiences in photographing children, you’ve probably captured a particularly emphatic tantrum or frown on a kid’s face, so emphatic it becomes comical although not at the moment to the kid in question! With an appropriate caption for a humorous greeting card these can be excellent material.

In front of a camera some kids are natural hams. Once you really start being observant, you’ll see the wealth of material available in photographing children.

Choose photos that you already have that you think might sell. You have nothing to loose. It could result in sale of hundreds or even thousand of dollars worth of sales in a year if you have a hot seller in your hands.

You may have other markets such as magazines, newsletters and newspapers as well as stock photo sites. You may consider an exhibition at your local library. Imagine if people were calling you.

Photos of kids are sought after by cause oriented groups with a focus on children’s issues. A child or group of smiling children is heartwarming and can inspire potential donors to that cause to follow through and donate!

You should consider your hobby in a professional light if you enjoy photographing children. Taking that first step may prove the best move you’ve ever made.
